Ljubljana, jewel of Eastern Europe

Easy to pronounce, difficult to write, Ljubljana (Lubliana) capital of Slovenia, is a small green city. And a marvel of architecture both art nouveau, baroque and medieval.

IT IS CLASSIFIED "GREEN CITY"

The green capital of Europe 2016, Ljubljana stands out for its well-maintained parks and gardens, its passion for cycling and its eco-friendly culture. The region of the woods obliges, the bikes mix wood and scrap, adorn with garlands of flowers. If Ljubljana means "beloved," the charm of the city owes much to the Ljuljanica river and cobbled streets in which to walk, have a drink on the terrace or take photos from the deck dragons.

THE CATHEDRAL IS A BAROQUE STYLE JEWEL

In the heart of the old town, the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas can be seen from afar with its green bulbs, twin towers and the little dragon, the emblem of the city. The interior is at the height of the most beautiful religious buildings of Eastern Europe, in a rather Italian Baroque style. It is a symphony of chantilly, gilt, rose and pistachio nave, dome, as on frescoes or statues. Less eye-catching than the Russian baroque, more sentimental than the Baroque in Bohemia.

THE "OPEN KITCHEN" PROPOSES A 3 STAR PICNIC

On the Poga?arjev square square, every Friday morning, the restaurateurs propose an open-air kitchen with stalls devoted to gastronomy around the world. Odrpta Kuhna (open kitchen) gives the opportunity for an improvised lunch on the tables made available outside. Iranian cuisine, Asian, smoothies and vegetarian burgers, Slovenian flavors, etc., is the time to taste everything.

THE "HIGH RISE CASTLE" IS A CURIOSITY

You can walk to the castle or take the funicular. Overlooking the city and its dragons for nine hundred years, the castle of Ljubljana offers from its tower a panoramic view over the whole city. From this observation post, you can enjoy the fact that Ljubljana resembles a small Swiss town with its red roofs, bell towers, river and parks. Within the walls of the castle, the chapel of Saint-Georges, is a good reason to "climb" up to the top. Gothic style outside, baroque inside, it looks like a barley sugar. It is also at the castle that most of the concerts and cultural events of the city will be attended.
